It’s time for my Weekend Reading!!! One of the good things about being married to an avid reader, is she doesn’t mind if I put my nose in a book along with her. Although, it’s rarely the same book.
My wife and I have much different taste (Apart from Stranger Things). She is a Historical Romance reader and I’m an avid Science Fiction fan. In fact you should probably go check out her blog, follow her on Instagram, Twitter and all other imaginable places (It will earn me bonus points) then comment below and tell me you did so- It will earn you bonus points with me.
One of my goals for 2018 is to read some of the classics in Speculative Fiction. Works by authors like Eddings, Heinlein, Bradbury, Asimov, Herbert, and a host of others. I think to often we dismiss these pioneers as yesterdays fiction- Just a pile of books collecting dust that are no longer relevant to a modern audience. To this I say: Nonsense.
The works of these authors- Who wrote to give warning- Are just as relevant today as they were fifty years ago. Perhaps because in some ways the warnings of what we as a society could become were brushed off as simple conspiracies.
The first book I’m turning to in these classics is Space Cadet, by Robert A Heinlein. Heinlein is considered by many to be the grandfather of Science Fiction. A mentor to Bradbury, he paved the way and went from a simple pulp writer to a Hugo award winning author.
Space Cadet, written in 1948 is the story of Matt Dodson, who joins the Space Patrol to help preserve peace in the Solar System. It’s the standard story of a boy going to an unfamiliar academy and becoming a hero. Fifty pages in I’m already loving it.
So that’s what is up for me this weekend. What about you, what do you plan to read…? Tell me in the comments.

You Ever Seen the Movie LOOPER…? I love this film. I have seen it three or four times, and read the screenplay. (Yeah I am dorky like that.) The entire point of the premise is that Old Joe (Played by Bruce Willis) travels back in time, avoids being killed by his younger self, (Young Joe) and goes on a hunt to find the child that would one day become known as The Rainmaker.
You see- In the future, the Rainmaker is not a very kind person. And as a result, Old Joe’s wife is killed. Old Joe has this thought that if he can find and kill The Rainmaker as a child, maybe his wife won’t die in the future.
Now there are some obvious flaws in his logic and there is much more to the film- But that has me thinking and my wheels spinning.
With the Release of 11/22/63 coming out on Hulu Monday: If YOU could travel back in time and stop a major event in history from happening, or assassinate some evil dictator in history, what / or who would it be…? And why…?
l will admit- I’m attracted to all things Geeky.
I also will say that I know far more about the “FI” than the “Sci” in Sci Fi. Still, I’m attracted to stories that are both unique and strange. (Which is part of the reason I’m PUMPED about Fox bringing the X-Files back) Regardless, I came across this old article on the internet today. Don’t look now, but it seems NASA has caught a black hole with its hand in the cosmic cookie jar.
Scientist traced tell-tale flare-ups of cosmic radiation back to a black hole a million times the mass of Earth’s Sun.
One such article referred to it as a “Cosmic Belch!”
Why bring this up on Good Friday? I like to keep items such as these in a mental file folder label “The Psalm 19 Files.”
Whether it be Diamond Planets or the death of a star-
“The Heavens do indeed tell the Glory of God!”
And to think- That today: With all the vastness of this universe, he would choose to die for someone like me.
